Lacey is a city located in the unforgettable and spectacular Pacific Northwest. It is located in Thurston County, Washington. While Lacey is a great city all on its own, it is a suburb of nearby Olympia and also a commuter town for Fort Lewis and Tacoma.

Lacey is situated on Washington’s stunning Puget Sound near the western edge of the pristine Cascade Mountains.
 


History

Lacey was incorporated as a city in 1966. This American settlement began in the 1840s and was a thriving farming and logging community by the 1890s which boasted a train station, hotel, post office, store, and nationally renowned horse racing facility.

Before the settlement, this area and surrounding areas were home to the Nisqually Tribe, and the Squaxin Tribe and Europeans or Americans traveled to this area.
 


Demographics

As of the 2010 census, 42,393 people were residing in Lacey WA which consists of 16,949 households. The racial makeup of Lacey was 74.2% White, 5.4% African American, 1.2% Native American, 8.0% Asian, 1.7% Pacific Islander, 2.6% other races, and 7.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.2% of the population. Of the 16,949 households, 33.9% had children under the age of 18, and 11% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
 

Things To Do In Lacey

Lacey has plenty of shopping, a variety of businesses, a large retirement community, a major mushroom farm and is the home to the International Paper Company corrugated container facility. It is a natural paradise overlooked by the magnificent Mt. Rainier. There are multiple freshwater lakes, densely-forested parklands, championship fairways, hiking, biking trails, and the Nisqually National wildlife refuge and views of Mt Rainier.  You will have no shortage of outdoor activities or opportunities to enjoy nature when you get to live in Lacey.

The city also hosts the Lacey Museum which was established to preserve and interpret Lacey’s history through exhibits, historical publications, educational programs, and research activities. The Lacey Historical Commission encourages involvement and volunteers. The Lacey Community Center has many events. The city of Lacey also has 1,200 acres of municipal parklands and green space with public pools and community buildings. The Regional Athletic Complex is one of the premier outdoor sporting venues in Washington. It is a 100-acre facility which features regulation soccer, baseball and softball fields, electronic scoreboards, concessions and parking for 500 vehicles.

Lacey is home to many public and private schools and is home to Saint Martin’s University. Lacey is also a popular residential destination for baby boomers and senior citizens because of its peaceful environment with a low crime rate, clean water, and fresh air.

  • In the 1960s, the primary industries were cattle, milk, forest products, and retail.
  • Lacey was designated as a “Green Power Community” by the US Environmental Protection Agency for its use of renewable energy sources. It is working toward using alternative energy for its parks, streetlights, and municipal buildings.
  • Lacey has received the Tree City USA designation from the National Arbor Day Foundation for twenty-six years.
  • Kasey Keller, USA Soccer Goalkeeper, grew up on an egg farm in Lacey. He graduated from North Thurston High School in 1988.
  • A street that is adjacent to North Thurston High School is named after Kasey Keller.
  • Jonathan Stewart, NFL Carolina Panthers Running Back is a graduate of Timberline High School. He attended The University of Oregon and the Carolina Panthers drafted him as the 13th pick overall n the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
  • Mike Sellers, NFL Washington Redskins Pro Bowl Fullback is a graduate of North Thurston High School and Lacey residents look forward to his return in the off-season.
  • Jerramy Stevens, NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tight End is a graduate of River Ridge High School and was the 28th overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks.
  • Brad Blackburn, MMA Fighter is from Lacey and a graduate of Timberline High School.
  • Ron Holmes, former NFL Defensive End graduated from Timberline High School.
  • Seattle Mayor Ed Murray was a 1977 graduate of Timberline High School.
  • Kyla Coleman, from Lacey and River Ridge graduate, won the 2018 America’s Next Top Model.

Meals are prepared in a separate industrial-sized kitchen and transported to each individual kitchen for meal preparation. The Cottages Of Lacey is a securely gated community.

Here you will find a combination of the best features of adult family homes and commercial assisted living communities. The Cottages of Lacey provide an intimate environment filled with individual attention given by a professional, well-trained and compassionate staff which is available 24 hours each day and seven days a week. A beautiful outdoor area offers the opportunity for residents to take a walk, get some fresh air and exercise.
